Five Min AI: Generate AI Images

Get started with Midjourney

Hello from Ed3!

I’m excited to send a bonus email today for a special occasion.

🎁 Not only is it my birthday, but it’s also the start of Five Min AI!

Five Min AI is a new resource for you. The goal is to spend five minutes a day for five days to master an AI skill. I post the challenge on LinkedIn, so anyone can join and learn. Subscribers like you get extra bonuses like video lessons and lesson guides.

📸 This week: images! Learn to make gorgeous images for branding, slides, or even a birthday card using AI.

I wanted to send you the first lesson, so you understand what we’ll be doing. If you want to receive emails like this for each lesson, add yourselves to the Five Min AI list here.

I hope you enjoy it if you choose to join the short course. We’ll see you again for our regular Ed3 Digest on Friday.

Have a great week!

-Scott

How Five Min AI Works

Follow along on LinkedIn daily. I’ll post each lesson on my personal page here: https://www.linkedin.com/in/scottdavidmeyer/

Read the lesson, follow instructions, post your image in the comments.

Subscribers like you get even more help!

I’ll email video lessons and provide a lesson plan at the end of the week to teach others.

Today, we’ll start by creating your first image. The video lesson for subscribers is here.

The text of the lesson is below. Good luck, and don’t forget to share your image as a comment on my LinkedIn post here: https://www.linkedin.com/posts/scottdavidmeyer_fiveminai-ai-activity-7043620090239488000-v3Qv

Create Your 1️⃣ Image

We’ll use Midjourney because it’s easy, powerful, and social. Let’s start:

  1. Midjourney works on an app called Discord Create an account at discord.com. Optional: Download the desktop app, which is a bit easier.

  2. Now we want to join Midjourney. Visit https://www.midjourney.com/ and click Join the Beta. It will send you an invite. Accept it!

  3. Open Discord. On the left-hand side, look for a ship icon. This is the Midjourney server where we’ll do everything. Click the ship. Jump in!

  4. Along the left-hand side, you’ll see channels. Things like Announcement, Welcome, and magical rooms called Newbie-###. These newbie rooms are where we will do our work. Click on one of the Newbie channels.

  5. Now we get to work. You will create a “prompt,” - a fancy word for a statement. In Midjourney, we imagine what to create, so we start each prompt with /imagine. Type in /imagine and hit the space bar.

  6. Next, we tell Midjourney what “object” to imagine. Our prompt will have an object, which is just an adjective/s + subject. For this project, let’s pick an animal!

I’ll do: /imagine jolly, blue, turtle.

  7. Midjourney will take a moment to generate your image - while you wait, you can see what others are designing and start learning from their prompts! When it’s ready, you’ll get an alert, and Midjourney will give you four options.

You can upscale an image you like (U), get all new images with the arrows, or create four new image variations (V) based on one of the creations you like. The numbering is clockwise, with top left one, and bottom left four.

  8. Play around and generate new images or variations. When you’re ready, click U# for the one you like.

  9. Now share your work! Two ways to get your image.

Right-click on your image in Discord. Choose Save Image.

Or, click “Web” underneath your image. It will take you to the Midjourney website. Ignore prompts to purchase. Instead, click Home on the top left to see all your images and the prompts you use. This is a great way to keep track of your work!

Click your image, click the three dots on the bottom, and choose Save Image.

  10. Now add your image as a comment on this post to share what you created.
